Seminar about <i>The History of the Ottoman Elite Infantry Units Janissaries</i> Was Held at the University of Zakho

On Monday, the 11th of January 2016 at 12:00 a.m., Dr. Tariq Ahmed Shekho, lecturer at the Department of History, presented a seminar about The History of the Ottoman Elite Infantry Units Janissaries at the Seminar Hall of the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Zakho. Dr. Tariq Ahmed Shekho focused on the formation of these infantry units in 1330 during the rule of Sultan Orhan Gazi and its abolishment in 1826 during the rule of Sultan Mahmud II. The seminar gave a detailed overview about the Janissaries, mentioning the recruitment of young boys aged ten to fourteen, the preparation of these infantry units and their important military role within the Ottoman Empire. After the presentation by Dr. Tariq Ahmed Shekho, constructive debates were conducted between the presenter and the participants, including lecturers and students from the Department of History.
